US - Cape Charles

Cape Charles itself is fine. The beach isn’t so beachy, but I did like how warm the water was, I liked how you could walk out into the water a hundred years without it hitting your thighs, and I liked, no, I loved that you could take a golf cart anywhere. Kind of my dream honestly.
But at the end of the day, this isn’t a small town, it’s a tiny town. You go to the same places over and over and over again because there’s only one of each.
It’s nice don’t get me wrong, but still.

The Shanty was a fun night out. Quintessential beach town restaurant with good food.

Coastal Baking Company was good too but if there’s a huge line it’s an easy pass.

Hotel Cape Charles - May 2020

I mean the hotel cape Charles is right on the main drag. It’s right in the center of the main drag. It’s not the prettiest store front, but the lobby is actually a welcome modern starkness in the home town eh charm that is cape Charles. The rooms are giant and look like they were converted studio apartments. Clean lines, decent furniture and views of the Main Street. The balcony rooms are best.
The hotel offers a free limited warm breakfast, they have beach chairs and umbrellas, and they have wine to purchase for the room.
I guess I liked the place.
Maybe the rooms were too stark, but the bathroom was big and had a giant shower.
Now all that said, the general manager and apparently all the time front desk dude, is not nice. He’s not even accidentally nice.
He leaves a sign at the front saying they are busy cleaning rooms and will see you after 3pm for check in. You know that sign sits there all day. I know he sits there all day, cause we saw him.
So all rooms are magically finished being cleaned at 3? I’ve always hated those nonsensical policies.
We’ll text you when your room is ready is the future.
When we came in he refused to let us use the bathroom. He refused to give us a golf cart, saying they all would magically be ready at 3pm. He didn’t offer us the chairs or umbrellas. He basically said fuck off. And we would’ve if we weren’t stuck.
It’s too bad honestly, as this hotel is good enough to have quite the loyal following.
People would line up to stay here if coming to cape Charles.
And again, yes, he refused multiple times to let hotel guests use the bathroom... citing some non existent health department law. Same state dude. You lyin.
