Italy - Como
Pretty sweet area, but I think the hotel I picked, while rad, didn't offer a great experience for town living. It was just too far away. A supposed 10 minute walk was actually like a difficult 45 minute walk. It was hot so I’m biased, but still it was a bit of a hike. It was also super crowded, with super lines to the ferries and the funicular. Lines everywhere.
Como, and lake como in general, overall only appears to be worth it if you are renting a villa on the lake, or are perhaps invited to hang with Clooney (and there are very few taxis so have a car to get to Clooneys!).
This place is fine, but it’s not as good as many other Italian riviera style spots. The lake itself is not awesome and the beach in Como is like the joke of all jokes. I could not believe all the people laying out on it. They must all be from Bratislava or something. No offense to the beaches of Bratislava. I am sure they are quite lovely in season.
Notes to self:
-I get the hype making it so crowded, but other spots await…
The Hilton - Aug 2022
The Hilton is rad. Not the service, and especially not the dip shit concierges who have no advice to offer nor can they order a car when you need to make a train…when giving them 90 minutes notice, when they asked for 60 minutes notice, and you check in every 15 minutes…are you kidding me?
We got the lake view terrace suite and it was spot on. Huge bedroom with giant comfy king bed plus a huge living room. The main bathroom was perfect with a huge pornstar shower and the living room had a second perfectly fine full bath. The foyer had a mini bar area but they still say they are only filling them on request.
The pool was the jam with great service and Great Lake views. Spot on there too.
Buffet breakfast was great and their da Michelle Neapolitan street food pop up was great for us. If this hotel was just a little bit closer to the center then I’d say it’s a definite stay, but alas, not only is it too far, but apparently even with a ton of notice they still can’t guarantee you any type of transportation.
