US - Charlottesville
Oh Charlottesville. What to say…what to say. Nothing right now I think. Perhaps nothing publicly ever
Notes to self:
-Most recent Xmas trip was A&A Limo. Terrible driver and terrible limo (bad heat, bad TV, bad everything).
-The Graduate actually has TV action.
-The UVA Courtyard had the cool mirrored hot tub rooms (but you have to ask for them).
-Jan 2016 trip to Wintergreen. 3 bedroom condos on Dobie were pretty perfect (we were on the 3rd floor and liked it). No grilling and no hot tubs but it was still sweet, could fit 10 people. Our unit area (354) was where you want to be, the ones higher up can’t see the slopes and the ones lower down aren’t as walkable to the lodge. There were some very cool single family homes right at the top of Eagle Swoop that looked perfect as well.
-The best concert seats at JPJ are on the side sections closest to the stage, not on the floor level, and it’s only good in the suites for booze
Quirk Charlottesville - Oct 2020
If this hadn’t opened at the start of Covid it would literally be bursting at the seams. Lobby is cool. Downstairs bar is cool. Upstairs bar is cool. A town this size is very lucky to have something like this.
The rooms weren’t as fun as I had hoped. There are “first” floor rooms with balconies but the rooms above look right down on you and any view you get from height is sacrificed. The room was fine it was just small. It was called a deluxe and it was pretty skinny. I’ll try a suite next. The highlights are outside of the room really.
They did have empty fridges, for covid they had no room service. No movies but the TV worked great for us with the hdmi cord.
No valet cause of covid but12 a night self parking was close enough.
Breakfast was a la carte service so kinda sucked.
Dinner was good, but with no heaters patio dining was tough.
Keswick - Jun 2023
Room was right on the path.
Like our balcony was ground level looking at a walking path. Ridiculous.
Room service was good but only one utensil set up and no water? Why?
Toilet clogged and they brought us a plunger, like literally handed it to me at the door. Like good luck sucka!
As far as I can tell if you are on their Wi-Fi it won’t let you look at adult websites. I’ve experienced that before at hotels, in communist china, not kidding. What a fucking joke.
Room was nice but this place just ain’t well run. Dinner at marigold was good but they had us close our bar tab before being seated, no, and then we asked to be seated early and it took them forever to find us a table in an almost completely empty restaurant. Victoria was our server. WTF.
Terrible room service breakfast menu.
The fucking doors to the patio don’t lock and there’s no sheer curtain…f this
Draftsman Charlottesville - Nov 2020
Until the Quirk was built this was easily the best hotel in Charlottesville. Stylish lobby and a perfectly fine lobby bar and restaurant (currently closed but on our most recent visit they were doing carryout, including drinks).
The Corner rooms on main street are the best by far. Get room 1015.
Residence Inn Charlottesville - Various
This more business class style but its location cannot be beat. Maybe by the Omni but it’s better than the Omni IMHO.
Studio kings are just fine and are plenty big. Ask to face west main street as the other side just looks at staples etc. It’s only so tall but I would also ask for a high floor.
Graduate Charlottesville - Dec 2016
Free parking, no pay per view, mini bar existed but was empty.
Bar downstairs was just fine and there was a nice outdoor space to drink.
Pool is fine with a hot tub but it’s too small for laps. Gym is small but fine. No room service.
Notes
-Ask for an updated room.
-$115.
Boars Head Inn - Jul 2014
Had room service until 11pm (decent menu though). Movie system is old style but they did have 24 hour action. Old school AC units. Mini bar had a nothing in it (and required a key to open it).
Rooms are really old. Very disappointing. Pool area next to the main lobby area is weak. Lobby bar is pretty weak. Balconies on rooms are giant and can be great for sex though (big enough for full furniture). My balcony looked onto a lake. Room itself was hard to find and it was in one of those crappy hallways like a Days Inn would have.
Notes
-Obviously I love this place.
