US - Lake Tahoe

Tahoe is not like other mountain resorts. It’s an actual town beyond the slopes themselves, so it can be very spread out. They do have a tiny square at the bottom of the gondola where you can go to bars and restaurants and hear music. It’s not bad, but it’s definitely not sitting at an outdoor bar and watching people snowboard down all day.

We stayed at a house in South Lake Tahoe (Bigger Essence of Tahoe, Jan 2018). It was pretty close to the main road but definitely not walking to anything. I would of preferred staying a few miles closer, as it does make a difference when driving everywhere, but the house was super nice so it’s hard to complain.

The main road here is the type of thing that you go back and forth on ten thousand times. It is the only artery and pretty much everything is on it.

Heavenly is pretty rad. Huge resort, and who doesn’t like boarding from one state to another. Neat me thinks.
The amenities were almost trying too hard though. I think you could get a burger at literally one lodge, like I don’t need fancy food when I stop quickly between trails, and some of the craft beer was just too annoying for being at that altitude
The girls loved the ski school (they did buy the entire mountain tickets as well). Kind of important when meeting for lunch past the first lift. Shit be expensive though!
The Gondola ride is something to behold! especially if you can get your own car. The Tamarack lodge at the top of that lift is gigantic and a good place to eat, probably the biggest lodge on the mountain.
The places on the California side left a little to be desired.
Overall, I never grow tired of being at ten thousand feet and snowboarding all the way down.

Notes to self:

-The casino’s are not bad at all. We only stayed in one because my girl and I wanted a single night away from the family and the large family house we had rented. It was exactly what we wanted. Now, that being said, the hard rock was definitely the better casino and thus we thought it was the best property. I think we started gambling at Harrahs and it was way underwhelming.

-Driving around the Lake can be a blast and we found a bunch of cool towns for shopping and lunching. Truckee was a bit of a haul off the lake but it was worth it I thought.

Montbleu Casino - Jan 2018

So we went here because the entire family was staying at a house together and we needed an adult afternoon.

The hotel is relatively new and it is modern enough. The views are a bit weak with hotels next to it on each side but we didn’t go for views.

The rooms are also modern and comfortable. Pay per view with 24 hour action, 24 hour room service, and empty mini bars. We liked the room.

-We liked this place but we would stay at the Hard Rock next time.
