US - Outer Banks
I know why you like it. At least I think I know why you like it. I’m trying hard to understand.
It’s secluded right? It’s quiet? It’s isolated making it unique and special? Is that it?
Maybe I just don’t get it. I might never to be honest with you, perhaps it’s just not me.
For starters, it’s close to nothing. There’s pretty much one way in and one way out (pretty much anyway). So there’s that. So maybe there is this, if this is the closest reasonably cool beach, then I am all for it. If this is the hand that god dealt you, then play the shit out of that bitch.
But, and I mean BUT, if the above isn’t true. If the above isn’t very true, then what the hell are you doing?
There is no boardwalk.
There isn’t even really a commercial center to speak of.
I mean you can’t really even walk from one restaurant to another, so there’s no really going out for a night on the town so to speak.
There’s almost nothing commercial on the beach, well definitely nothing, but I mean nothing that even really feels on the beach. I mean come on.
There are hardly any patios at the restaurants.
Getting to the beach can be a giant hassle in and of itself.
It’s incredibly expensive. Incredibly for what you get. Especially if you want to be on the water. For the most part these houses are so valuable to owners that they never seem to update them.
The restaurants that you must go to because there aren’t enough of them are always packed.
The restaurants that you must go to aren’t even very good, no offense. I’m sorry. Truly I am. I’m not though.
I liked the markets, I liked a number of things, but you’re telling me that there are enough of those to pass up the never ending stream of beach towns dotting the mid atlantic?
I mean if you like being secluded, can’t we at least agree to be near a fun sort of entertainment/restaurant/store center. I mean then we could at least drive there for an evening? Or at least I could at least drive there to spend a moment away from your strange need to leave your isolated world just to go spend a week or 2 in an isolated world. At least give me that.
There’s a number of places like that around Myrtle, a number of places like that around VA Beach, a number of places like that around ocean city, and rehobeth, and etc etc etc.
Not to mention actually being in one of those fun areas. And don’t you dare say that Nags head has any of that. It doesn’t. Captain smelly’s rabot hole putt putt does not qualify you as being a fun zone.
Anyway, we stayed in Nags Head for a week, and then Carolla for 2 weeks in the Covid summer of 2020. Carolla is built for someone other than me. One lane road in and out, meaning the most minor of traffic jams, problems, or accidents and you are f’k’d. PLUS, PLLUUUSSSS, there’s pretty much nothing to do except go to the beach. How is that desirable? We did get steamer pot seafood and things of that nature and I enjoyed that, but that’s a small consolation prize!
PS. Brewthru is rad and I don’t know why they are not everywhere…that is all.
