Australia - Sydney
Not kidding, I have never been to a place with more scantily clad, beautiful women walking around than Sydney. I am not easily in awe, and I am in awe. These girls are smokin’, with sick bodies that they flaunt with all the confidence in the world. If this place wasn’t a million miles away I would live here. It’s that kind of city. For the most part it’s very walkable. It has superstar beaches, some of the best restaurants in the world, style that could rival any city in the US easily, beer everywhere, legalized prostitution (not that I’m saying it matters, but they are liberal in the right ways), people are all nice. The only downside I could argue is that I hate the cabs. They are too pricey for what you get…and if I’m saying that then it’s bound to piss off any non Australian.
Notes to self:
-Watch that airport cab…sneaky fucking Russian charged me 84 bucks…and when I called him a thief and balked he looked me straight in the eye and said that’s the price…it should’ve been about 50…no traffic. So fuck that fucker.
-Go to Bondi, eat some food in a café, do the cliff walk to Bronte, walk along the beach, and ogle.
-Bronte beach has almost nothing at it, so be careful to carry what you need when you walk away from Bondi. I figured I could buy a towel when I got there but nada! I laid out on my shirt.
-People say you should hit up Icebergs at Bondi. I did to hit the bathroom! but was underwhelmed by the bar areas and the pool looked liked like what you would find at a public pool in Russia or something. That being said, it’s pretty sweet to have waves crash into the very pool you’re swimming in. Nice views from the deck, but you see the same from the path you will be walking on.
-Go to the establishment hotel. If you can’t stay there then visit their restaurants and bars. The place just exudes style. Mr. Wongs is one of the better looking restaurants I’ve ever been in (it’s like an old school factory or something).
-Kings Cross might very well be the best weekend nightlife spot in the world. Not kidding. Hot women everywhere, pubs everywhere, strip clubs, brothels, there was even a tiny casino, there are cabs nonstop, there is food available all night. I don’t know what comes close to be honest.
-Air New Zealand Business lounge at the airport is pretty swanky.
“The Penthouse”…holy shit.
QT Hotel - May 2013
Man I loved this place. Right next to (or maybe technically in) Darling harbor and close to pretty much anything in the center city. They have doormen and women wearing sort of circus outfits at the front, and from the street the façade looks like the entrance to a broadway theater. The “first” lobby (ground floor) is a very cool café that feels New York mixed with Barnum and Bailey. The Mezzanine has a spa (which is somewhat simple but the treatment rooms are cool and it has a decent hammam style steam room), and a really fucking cool old school barbershop where you can get a straight razor shave (which was ridiculous fun). The proper “lobby” is on floor 1, which is really floor 3 but whatever, and doesn’t disappoint. Uber cool style in multiple lounge rooms.
The restaurant is outrageous. One of those perfectly designed spaces. Very popular too.
The rooms aren’t giant, but I found mine to be the perfect size. Huge bed with a very nice desk and pantry area. Great lighting and colors. The bathroom was all I really hope for in a bathroom, even though it had no giant soaking tub. The huge slate shower room directly in front of the giant bathroom mirror was too cool.
This is the spot… Between Establishment and here, I would choose here…or maybe both again. They are both just great. Maybe QT because they did have pay movies, 24 hour room service served by people who aren’t manning the front desk, and pictures of girls in lingerie everywhere…it’s tasteful though, I promise. The downside of QT is the layout. Though they do have an outside private door that goes up to the rooms, you often times find yourself taking an elevator to one floor just so you can reach another…but here I cared very little.
Establishment Hotel - May 2013
What a fantastic job they did. The location is great, the rooms are big, there are restaurants and bars on location all done in similar styles, the staff is amazing. This hotel is close to perfect. (It’s right near the Rocks and the Opera House)
The rooms are built into the foundation of the building…like brick and beams and steel. The bathrooms are some of the best I’ve ever seen…mine had a shower that was bigger than most bathrooms. The beds are comfy and floating (not against a wall).
My room had a bathroom area and a bedroom area connected by a seating/desk area. But the cool thing is that it all really just made one big room. Nothing separated one area from another except for style really. So while lying in bed, you are facing a properly distanced giant tub sitting in the middle of the bathroom. Too cool.
The downsides are common in any boutique hotel (I think they have 30 rooms). There are no pay per view movies. Room service is limited (and mine was literally delivered by the desk clerk, which was slightly uncomfortable…like you feel bad ordering). The walls are all very old so sound bounces off them and travels along them. I can hear most things in the hallway and next door, and on the weekends the club didn’t stop till very late.
If you don’t stay at this hotel you still need to go to some of the restaurants, and definitely the indoor/outdoor club.
