Uruguay

Punta Del Este 2.JPG

I don’t think much of Uruguay. I went there because it was a ferry ride from Buenos Aires…and because one should be worldly. The towns closest to Argentina are all colonial, which is great I suppose if you’re 60. The beach towns are closer to Brazil (literally) and can be cool, but they aren’t going to knock anybody’s socks off. I would go back to Punta Del Este and maybe try the beaches north of there, but not much else. BA and Rio offer just too much more to spend significant time in Uruguay. Good looking and nice people though

Notes to self:

-Stay somewhere other than Old Town Montevideo!

Don Boutique Montevideo - Feb 2013

You can’t stay at this hotel. It’s a great hotel and the staff is really nice, but you can’t stay here. This area is terrible. Staying in the old part of town (where this is) is fine for about 4 hours during the day while the shops are open, after that it becomes a dark, abandoned, and pointless area. I liked the hotel (small but modern lobby, good windows that open onto the street, modern and Spartan room interiors, they even have a cool rooftop deck and pool) but you can’t stay here.

Conrad Hotel Punta Del Este - Feb 2013

I didn’t stay at this hotel…but I wanted to (it was fully booked). It looked like the best spot in Punta, it’s right across from the beach, and right down the street from lots of other action. The hotel itself is pretty sweet with a very nice casino and bar area, multiple restaurants, multiple patios with views…it seemed like a cool place to chill.
